OwnLLM

Download OwnLLM

The easy way

Works on macOS (Apple Silicon and Intel) and Linux (Intel/AMD and ARM). On Windows, install WSL2 first and run this inside Ubuntu.

curl -fsSL https://ownllm.org/install.sh | sh

It downloads about 10 MB, checks the fingerprint, installs for your user only, and offers a model that fits your computer. You can look at the installer first: install.sh is short and readable. Add --dry-run to see what it would do without changing anything.

Offline (no internet on the target computer)

On an online computer, download the package for your system and SHA256SUMS from the latest release, and the model file you want from the Hugging Face page. Copy them over, then:

shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing    # on Linux: sha256sum -c ...
tar -xJf ownllm-*.tar.xz && cd ownllm-*/ && sh install.sh --no-model
ownllm get small --from /folder/with/the/model

Models

ModelMemorySize
tiny2 GB+0.5 GB
small (default)4 GB+1.1 GB
standard12 GB+4.7 GB

Add one later with ownllm get standard. The model files are hosted on Hugging Face; every file is checked by its SHA-256 fingerprint. Models are published by their authors under the Apache License 2.0; see the list.

Checking your download

Every release file has a published SHA-256 fingerprint in SHA256SUMS on the release page. The installer and the ownllm command check fingerprints for you and delete any file that does not match.
